Mr Tahwinder Upile
Mr Upile is a clinical academic surgeon whose main interests include: Head & Neck Oncology, ENT disorders (Ears Nose and Throat Surgery with Facioplastics of the Head & Neck), Clinical Surgery in General, Primary Care Diagnostics, Medical Student Teaching and Medical Law. He has sub-speciality interests (Surgery and Research) in Otology and Rhinology. He is also a general practitioner and works with the Royal College to promote patient interests. His current activities include:
- The use of nanotechnology in the treatment and prevention of common ENT disorders.
- The molecular biology / genetic basis of middle ear disease.
- Optical diagnostics including Micro-endoscopy / ESS/ OCT technology in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Mr Upile is currently in the process of combining this technology with neural network signal processing to investigate the feasibility of an intra-operative instant ‘histological’ diagnosis.
Mr Upile's aim is to promote best practice and top quality ENT care for patients through the improved teaching and practice of surgery and out-patient /office protocols. Mr Upile has a varied teaching portfolio and co-organises several London Based ENT Courses (www.ucl.ac.uk/ear/training/short-courses): including the Ear, Nose & Throat Emergencies Course; the Revision Course for the Diploma in Otolaryngology with Head & Neck Surgery, the Grays Inn Road Intercollegiate Fellowship (FRCS) Course for the Final Examination in Otolaryngology and the ENT Revision Day (for MRCGP,MRCS, MRCP, MRCPaeds candidates and General Practictioners to fulfil their ENT Knowledge base requirements). Mr Upile also contributes to the Coventry based: Masters Medicolegal Course, the Masters Practical Course on Advanced Techniques for Snoring Treatment Course and the Masters Multidisciplinary Dissection Course in Head & Neck Surgery (www.MastersHeadNeckCourse.com).
